1000!

According to Blogger, this is my 1000th post! I find it hard to believe. I started this blog near the end of 2003 and the time has gone by fast! In this time, I have changed my url and in the process also seen the history blogosphere explode.

Some of my posts have been good, some have been bad, many have highlighted other sites, some have hosted History Carnivals, and others have promoted these same carnivals. However, through it all, this blog has allowed me to write about history in an easy way. And I appreciate all who have taken the time to post comments, link to me, or just read my writing.

What does 1000 mean? Of course, Wikipedia has an article on this. It can mean just a number ( a one followed by three zeroes, in the general notation), time (a millennium has 1000 years), a specific year (the year 1000 is the last year of the first millennium AD), and money (as in a grand). I guess I am using 1000 as the first sense listed above.

I realize that 1000 is not really that significant of a number. It is just nice and round and is the first one with four digits. Nonetheless, I note that most blogs do not stick around very long, many that do are infrequently updated, and that it is significant for a blog to reach this level. As such, I am taking this moment to briefly celebrate before starting on the next 1000.

On this day in 2003, I first fired up this blog. When I made my first post, I had no idea I would still be at this four years later. This blog has changed a great deal during that time. My posts are a lot different and usually more substantial. I have...

- Year 1000: A Legacy Of Science & Technology
Year 1000: A Legacy of Science & Technology. This is an online exhibit that explores the events in Europe and influences from China, India, and the Islamic world that began an intellectual revolution. I found this site informative, easy to navigate,...

- Three Years Of The World History Blog
Happy New Year! Last week, this blog successfully passed the three year birthday date. As blogs tend to have short lives, I am very happy to still be around and blogging on a regular basis. Let me thank some people: 1. I appreciate all the readers who...

- Two Great History Carnivals
There are two interesting history carnivals up. This includes History Carnival #27 and the Carnival of Bad History #5. There are a variety of good (and a few bad) history blog posts highlighted. I was caught by this writing at the Carnival of Bad History...

- Fighting Comment Spam At The World History Blog
They will not go away. Despite adding word verification (and required ID's) to stop automated spambots, I am still getting spam in my comments. Apparently the spammers are now creating accounts just to spam. They manually enter the word verification...
