Larry Ferlazzo has posted a webpage with what he thinks are the best social studies sites for 2012 so far. One of the sites is a Google (who would have guessed)site with a street view collection of images in Italy including the Appian Way, the baths of Diocletian, the Piazza san Giovanni, The Colosseum, etc. Google gives you a street view and moves around. It also gives you a description for each image like this one for the image above--"The Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Florence, Italy. Notable for its impressive dome, the structure took 170 years to complete." It's also really cool the way you flip through the images, like they are in a book. Also, you can click on "Collections" in the upper left corner and see other street view collections. They include parks, universities, Russia, Poland, Antarctica, and one that is really cool called the World Wonders Project.
